March 2009 - Mission Possible!

Sunday, 15th March 20094:30pm7:30pm

with John Stevens, from City Evangelical Church, Birmingham

Our theme for this evening is set by the parting words of our Lord Jesus to his closest followers, as recorded in Matthew’s gospel: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations” (Mt 28.18-19)
Joining together with churches across Beds & Herts, we unashamedly go back to basics to recover for our day the ‘great commission’ in its profound simplicity and power. In two addresses, John Stevens aims to revive our passion and sharpen our vision for imaginative evangelism today.

1. Why should we bother?

The mission of the church is the mission of God. The command of Jesus flows from the heart of the Father. Our confidence in evangelism comes not from ourselves but from God himself. We focus on the task before us, clarifying our priorities and hearing afresh God’s call.

2. How should we bother?

The mission of the church is the mission God enables. We focus on the God who goes before us and is with us whenever we reach out in love with the gospel, . And we consider some of the practical steps we can take, week by week as well as in dedicated mission ventures, in loving obedience to the stirring command and promise of Jesus.

Extras

We will also make time, as usual, to hear from one another of mission enterprise in our churches. And during the evening John Stevens will introduce A Passion for Life, a nationwide initiative encouraging local churches to take up the challenge, in partnership wherever possible, to reach out to their communities in new ways in the run up to Easter 2010. (See www.apassionforlife.org.uk for more detail).
